Eli this is great! You have discovered a wonderful way for students to use Twitter instead of a discussion board via an LMS. Since many schools do not yet have an LMS available to them this is a great alternative. I love their frustration of the character count and how you turned it into the positive of making them choose their words carefully!
Eli, I love this project! It kept all students actively involved; because of the limited character count, it was not too long or cumbersome for them, and was motivational--as one student commented, "It didn't feel like we were doing homework, because we were using social media." Another positive is that they seemed to come to class prepared--it was like a warm-up to the warm-up activity! I think your idea of doing the micro-blog over a longer period of time and allotting class time to discuss their tweets and the celebs they are following would be a positive change to implement the next time!
I love how you used Twitter (this is one social network that is not blocked at my school) It is a great activity for the interpersonal mode. It seems like your students really enjoyed it. I like how you used a google poll to show your data.
Eli, thank you for this! Indeed, social media is a great tool to capture the attention of our students! Tweeting is really fun! I can't wait to use it again in the classroom.
